History
Head of Department - Carole Ward In
History, students study a range of topics that are informed by the
National Curriculum and where possible, relevance is drawn to their
individual needs and abilities. In particular, students explore the
reasons behind why people interact and why such interaction causes a
particular event. The results and consequences of these interactions
are also explored. The overriding aim of History at Farleigh College is to prepare the students for adult life by providing an enjoyable and enriching experience for all students in our care. We achieve this by developing knowledge and understanding of our heritage, as a country and as a world wide community. We broaden horizons by investigating not only what has happened in the past and what is currently taking place, but by making justified assumptions about the future based on the evidence we have found. By learning about the past, we enhance individual social skills allowing each student to appreciate and be tolerant of other people’s views. We encourage the development of the skills required to question in an informed and positive way and to undertake historical investigations and draw relevant conclusions, based on evidence. Students have the opportunity to undertake History GCSE where they will demonstrate their ability to analyse, explain and evaluate different historical events and draw relevant interpretations.
