Independence
Farleigh
College's Independence Programme ensures that all students
reach their full potential in
independent living skills. The programme is split into three sections. The first section focuses on aspects of behaviour and starts by building up a profile of each student using a questionnaire. These questions help highlight areas that require support, which in turn can be used to compile their ICP (Individual Care Plan) and daily targets. Stages two and three help students gain knowledge of independence skills such as shopping, activity planning, talking on the telephone and independent travelling. Termly targets are set in these stages to help monitor progress. All students are able to
move through the levels at their own pace and reward
schemes such as merits and vouchers are in place to encourage adherence to and
maintenance of targets. Each student is assigned a key worker from their living unit who monitors progress and keeps records of the student's progress, including signing off targets that have not only been achieved but also been consistently maintained. When this happens a certificate is issued as a record for the student to keep in their accompanying file. This record is available for the student to read at any time. These records are passed on to further education placements and can assist with the student's integration into his or her new environment. |
