News - 2005/6
July 2006 Sports Day Once again, the annual Farleigh College Sports Day was a huge success. The weather held out and all of the pupils did extremely well. The awards ceremony that followed made everyone realise how much progress can be made by our pupils. There were a lot of proud parents, friends and relatives. Outreach Work In an effort to further improve links with local schools, LEA's and other relevant organisations, Farleigh College has decided to offer an opportunity to share our knowledge with others working with Asperger's from the surrounding area. A leaflet was produced and distributed. A copy of this leaflet can be found here. (approx 1Mb) June 2006 Work Experience Congratulations to the year 10 pupils who attended their work experience placements. For many, it was a real success and with the support of staff, many managed to make a real impression on their temporary employers. This was a huge step for many of our youngsters and they should be thoroughly proud of themselves. Year 11's Leavers Camp Once again, the year 11 pupils were able to celebrate the end of their GCSE examinations by attending a 3 day camp on Exmoor. Activities included quad biking, surfing, fishing and walking and it was enjoyed by all. Thanks go to the pupils, who behaved extremely well, and to the staff, without whom, it would not be possible. May 2006 Football Match We were pleased to welcome the football team from Chelfham School in Devon to Farleigh College for a match. Both teams played well and it was nice to see Mr. Crosby (former deputy head of Farleigh) again. He is now Principal of Chelfham School in Devon. Farleigh College managed to scrape a victory by one goal. Final Score 6-5. April 2006 Gymkhana Our pupils represented the school extremely well at a Gymkhana at Warminster. Team Farleigh did exceptionally well and each left with a rosette as a token of their efforts. March 2006 Paralympic Games Visit In March, a group of pupils travelled to Manchester to visit the 'Paralympic World Cup Games.' Despite a long journey, the pupils enjoyed the event. Many Thanks to Lisa Heath, Head of PE, for organising the event. Februrary 2006 Care Inspection In February, we were visited by two inspectors from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). The results were extremely pleasing and as we are unable to quote from the document, we urge parents to read the report in full by visiting www.csci.org.uk January 2006 Theatre Trips The English Department organised two theatre trips to Bath this month. Some pupils attended a 'Poetry Live' event, others enjoyed a performance of Joshn Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men,' which they are studying as part of their GCSEs. Both trips were successful and enjoyed by all. December 2005 Christmas Concert Once again, the Farleigh College Christmas concert was held in the nearby Mells Church. It was lovely to see the talents of our pupils on display and the parents, guardians and friends who attended found it to be an excellent way to end the term. Well done. November 2005 Basketball Tournament Well done to all those who attended the basketball tournament this month. The pupils represented the school very well and played fairly, even under difficult conditions. A place in the final was well deserved. October 2005 Security Improvements This month saw some major improvements to the school's security systems. I am sure that everyone can see the benefit of keeping these up to date to ensure the safety of everyone at Farleigh. September 2005 Swimming Gala Some of our pupils attended a swimming gala this month. Everyone behaved well and we had several pupils coming away with winning medals. Well done to all who attended. |
