June 2007 Year 11 Leavers' Ceremony 22nd June saw us saying a fond farewell to our year 11 students. A
buffet lunch was provided for visiting parents and carers after which,
a short presentation took place in the Manor Room. Academic
tutors shared thoughts about their charges and the head boy and girl
made a short but moving speech about their time at Farleigh.
There was also a short slideshow bringing back memories of the students
throughout their years at the school.
Year 11 Camps 2007 Fast becoming a fixture in the Farleigh calendar, is the year 11 camping trip that takes palce during the students' last week in school. This year we had so many leavers that they were split into two groups, one camping in tents on Exmoor and the others in comparative luxury at Condover. Although the weather was not very kind, all the students who attended had a super time and there are lots of pictures of all the activities which included quad biking, horse riding, snowboarding, ice-skating and hiking. ![]() More picture available here March 2007 Farleigh
College’s inaugural Open Day took place on 23rd March 2007.
Parents, local schools and local LEAs were all invited to look around
the school and see how things work. On display was some of the work produced by our students, including GCSE projects such as films, textiles, art and ceramics. Parents were also able to see their own child’s work files and chat with the teaching staff. There were also photographs of the Outdoor Education and class trips. In addition, there was the opportunity for a few lucky visitors to purchase planters and bird boxes made by a group of our Design and Technology students. A buffet lunch was provided for everyone prior to them leaving on their well deserved Easter break. Feedback received was of a positve and encouraging nature and we hope to make this an annual occasion. Thanks must go to Kim, Shirley and Cheryl for taking on the main organisation of the event although many other staff assisted, both on the day and beforehand. January 2007 The school caretaker, Mike Bailey, local farmers and others worked tirelessly to remove the tree from the road, which they managed to do before nightfall. Despite the excitement from the students, they dealt with the situation maturely and safely. December 2006 Christmas Carol Concert Once
again, the pupils and staff of Farleigh College visited Mells Parish
Church for our annual Christmas Carol Concert. Parents and friends of
the college attended and then returned to school for coffee and mince
pies. As ever, it was a thoroughly enjoyable event and a fine end to the Autumn Term. Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success, particularly Mr Lucas who put in many hours helping the pupils to rehearse for their musical performances. Graham's Garden Following interest from a number of our students it was decided to establish the first stage of a school garden.Situated in the walled garden, a raised bed was built and the purchase of fifteen tons of topsoil enabled staff and students to prepare the plot. Subsequently, a number of shrubs have been planted and the bed prepared for planting vegetables. If you have any bulbs, seeds or shrubs that you can spare, and would like to donate to the school please, drop them in and they will be gratefully received. November 2006 Gymkhana During
this term Team Farleigh once again saddled up their trusty steeds and
entered another gymkhana at Congresbury, near Weston super mare. This time the Farleigh Team consisted of Jordan, Dylan, James, Craig and Josh who were entered in a variety of different events. Part of the day entailed one rider entering the arena and being judged in a dressage event. The senior riders James and Craig both did well, Craig being placed 3rd and James 6th in their events. Josh gained 1st place in the ‘horses being led’ category while new comers Dylan and Jordan also both won rosettes. October 2006 Swimming Gala Well done to the representatives of Farleigh College who attended the swimming gala at Bath Leisure Centre. One of our newer year 9 students actually entered 5 of the events and did the equivalent of 11 laps of the pool! Everyone involved participated well and encouraged each other. They returned to school thoroughly shattered but happy! September 2006 4L London Trip
After the visit, the class
walked the mile along the Thames to the London Eye, where they were rewarded
with spectacular views across the city. We then walked past Big Ben and the
Houses of Parliament, admired the guards at St James Palace and tried to spot
Mr Blair at 10 Downing Street. It was a great day out for
everyone, with some having never been We have had the results of our Investor in People inspection from last term. We
have been told that we can retain the reward. This is testament to the
time put into training our staff and ensuring that we all work towards
achieving the aims of the college. |
