Outdoor Education

Head of Department - Rob Townhill

Outdoor Education takes place for every class each term.  The
aim is to encourage use of social skills, to gain independence and to inspire self confidence.  The activities are usually physical and always varied. In the past students have taken part in activities such as kayaking, climbing, raft building, conservation, hiking, archery, survival skills, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, high ropes and motorbiking with more in the pipeline.

Also, survival is an option choice and covers things such as building shelters, using different tools and making fire!  In addition, students are taught how to purify water, what plants and animals are edible and how to cook them and navigation by the stars as well as with a map and compass.
