July 2005 The popular 'Farleigh College Sports Day' is featured in the Frome Standard Newspaper. A transcript is shown below... Staff join pupils for sports day – by Laura Hannam A traditional part of Farleigh College’s celebration of the end of the academic year is the sports day. This year’s event at Newbury provided opportunities for students to take part in a range of athletic events, including running, jumping and throwing disciplines. The sports day proved the sporting highlight of the year with many students improving on their personal bests across the range of ages and events. Cheryl Davis, who helped organise the event said: “It was a very successful day, the children really enjoyed it and everything went to plan. The beautiful weather certainly helped as it was ideal for the day’s activities.” Emily Bright, a 25-year-old modern pentathlete from Frome who trains at the University of Bath, presented the prizes. Emily’s training schedule comprises equestrianism, running, swimming, fencing and pistol shooting. All at Farleigh wanted to thank Emily for being able to take the time out from such a packed programme to meet the students and present them with their hard earned medals and prizes. Ms Davis said: “I would like to thank Lisa Heath, PE coordinator for all her hard work organising the event. November 2004 Farleigh College is featured in the Guardian Newspaper.
